- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2014So, I read a lot of reviews about this product, and was scared because of everyone saying there was no bass.. But I decided to give it a shot, since they are usually $100 earphones, for $36 what's the harm.. And besides, I wanted to see what the big deal was with the Balance Armature drives.. So now that I have them, I get it.. I understand why Balanced Armatures are leagues better than Dynamic drivers.. Or at least in my opinion... I listen to music that has the Djent Guitar tone, and it uses a lot of Staccato notes, (Start stops). So, what usually happens, is you get a muddled up blob of bass, but not with these.. With these, you actually get individual bass notes, which makes for a clearer sound to hear string vibrations of the guitar as it's hitting the guitar neck.. I understand not everyone cares about hearing that stuff.. But I do, it adds a certain rawness to the music, and adds a certain depth to it that makes you want to listen for additional nuances that you never would've heard.. Trust me, these have more than enough bass for most people I let have a listen.. Besides.. The main reason you should be wanting these is for the entry level audiophile that can't afford $1,000 Shures.. Lol.. This gives you a real good taste of what the higher end earphones have to offer your ears..
P.S. If you want serious sound, don't complain about the quality of the music because of these headphones, if you're using an iPhone or Cassette player, blame the source you're using.. I use a rooted android devices and using "Power Amp" as the player, and installing the "Viper4Android" audio engine.. Trust me, it makes a Huge difference.. If you are that enthusiastic in your sound, give that set up a shot.. You'll see what I mean... It makes JVC Gummies sound half way decent.. So with these, it's just mind blowing.. I can't fathom how good the $1,000 Shures would sound with Quadruple Balanced Armature drives!!!
PSS... The packaging the retailer used to ship the product in was great. It arrived on time, I will recommend this store for people wanting to buy fairly priced electronics.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2013the sound, as most others have indicated, is lacking in bass, and (for ipod users) setting the equalization to loudness, bass booster, electronic, etc., can only do so much. for those who like listening to bass heavy music, this is something that'll be disappointing definitely. what i like with the earphones is the clarity. i personally use it for whenever i am touching up vocal tracks, and listening to audiobooks or language audio files.
a note of caution: the headphones are very good at noise isolation, so if you do plan on buying it, make sure you are aware of your surroundings.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2014These earphones are one of the best I've ever used in the price range. If used correctly (due to the high ohms requirement) these will sound amazing.
The only downside is that these dont work well with some phones that can't support the ohms required for optimal sound. The only phone that It actually sounds well on was Sony's own phones due to their sound technologies built inside the phones. But I've tried these with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and it doesn't sound good. Its really weak but if used with a PowerAmp app they will sound a lot better and you can tune your music to your liking.
Another downside is that no matter how well you tune your music, they dont produce enough bass. But that isn't because its a horrible earphone. Since they are "Balanced Armature" drivers they require little to no air to produce sound waves. If you inspect the earphones themselve you can see they dont have any holes for air intakes. That's why the bass is bad because bass need to pull in air and push it out.
All and all i think Sony has done an amazing job for a fairly new and immature tech. It doesn't have the bass but it definitely has the clarity and acoustics. It you dont listen to a lot of bass. These are definitely a must buy first because its very cheap now and second because it has amazing clarity if used correctly. (amps) Dont buy it if you just have a regular phone because some won't have the power to produce clear sound. Phones with the PowerAmp app or the latest Sony phones will power these just fine. But a amplifier is needed to get the full potential of these balanced armature drivers.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2013They sounded good but I had a pair that sounded better than these that wre discontinued. I bought these 09/17/13 and they are broken today, 12/26/13. I looked into getting them replaced but because it's 9 days after I purchased them they are out of warranty. Iwould have to pay $35 plus shipping to get them replaced with a refebished pair. The problem is that they stopped working in the right ear.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2015Right headphone went out after 3 days of light use. I treated these headphones like babies: always kept them in the provided case (which, btw, did not offer much protection), never pulled at the wire connection points, and kept them generally clean. So for the life of me I don't know why these headphones stopped working. This has happened to me with many sony headphones, but never this soon. The right earbud in previous headphone would always quit after about 6 months or so. But, I put up with it because the sound quality of Sony earbuds is amazing. But this earbud's quality is very poor. If you want a balanced armature, I suggest going for at least the xba2's or even the xbah1's. Stay away from these.

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound, if you don't need the bass
These headphones have perfect perfect mids and highs. Just amazing clarity. But the lows are all but missing.
Not a bad deal at the clearance price, but I'm sure glad I didn't buy them at full price.

2.0 out of 5 stars ... was just expecting high quality sound when it seems like you're paying for functionality instead with these
Fell way short of my expectations - but maybe I didn't understand the 'balanced armature" feature or was just expecting high quality sound when it seems like you're paying for functionality instead with these.
