The subject of this review today is the Wacom Bamboo. This is what I would consider the high echelon of stylus in both design and price. The stylus is expensive, there's no question about that. But is it a good value? That's the question now isn't it.
Not everyone has upwards of $30 to spend on a stylus. Especially in todays economy where you're average citizen has trouble coming up with $30 to spend on food let alone a stylus. However, for those of you that have an extra $30, maybe you found it on the street or hit a scratcher at the local mini mart and decided to splurge on a styuls, here's what you'll get.'
The bamboo is a nice looking stylus, attractive with just enough heft to it. It features a removable pocket clip, no pen like some of the lower cost competitors. The replaceable tip is where the magic happens. For those of you that don't know this, making a stylus tip is especially tricky. You have to begin with a conductive material capable of mimicing the touch of a human finger. The Capacitive touch screen was designed to be used and manipulated by the human finger, therefore a certain amount of screen real estate must be contacted before the screen will recognize it. Herein lies the greatest challenge in stylus design. How to make the stylus accurate enough to be useful, yet contact enough of the touch screen to be recognized. The first stylus were bulky with large bolbus tips making any kind of accuracy difficult if not impossible. The bamboo tip is a hollow rubbery bulb about the size of a pencil eraser. It feels nice to the touch and performs very well whether you're plucking away at a web page, or creating a masterpiece with one of the many drawing apps available.
I waited 6 weeks for my bamboo from Amazon as it was on backorder. When it finally came I used it exclusively for about a month before I noticed the tip getting a bit flatter. Upon careful inspection I found a crack in the tip. When I contacted Wacom at first, I was told by a customer service agent that the tip was a consumable item, however in the spirit of good customer service I would be sent a replacement. I'm not generally one to make a deal out of such a seemingly trivial matter, however this stylus cost 3 time what my previous stylus cost and that one has a pen in it. I felt that for what I paid for this stylus, they shouldn't be doing me a favor by shipping me a replacement after just a month of use. In fact, the stylus should have come with a pack of replacement tips for that price; and I let them know it. Wacom surprised me with their response which was prompt and courteous and acknowledged my concerns effectively. In the end Wacom shipped me that replacement tip and a few extra to boot.
Bottom line: The Bamboo stylus is an excellent choice if you're looking for something in its price range ; which is as previously mentioned is quite high. While there are many cheaper alternatives available that are quite acceptable, nothing I've used to date equals the feel, balance, and touch of the Bamboo.
The Bamboo is quite heavy but perfectly balanced...the shape of it allows you to hold it up by the clip for shading and for typing on the iPad 2's keyboard, if that is a function you desire from your stylus. When using handwriting software or when drawing outlines on art software I personally hold it at the bottom of its barrel just above the metal shell that holds the tip. Speaking of the tip, I have a couple of comments. It's a much, much finer point than any of the others I've used, in some cases it's like going from writing with a full sized Sharpie to a .05mm Pentel gel rollerball pen, which is an absolutely huge improvement for thinner line accuracy. You can also unscrew the metal housing of the tip about halfway (it comes off, as the tips are replaceable) to make the point even finer. When you take the metal housing off you'll notice that the tip is extremely long, which implies to me that it'll last a very long time. I actually called Wacom to inquire about the cost of replacement tips - their customer service was exceeding friendly, I spoke with a girl by the name of Siobhan. She asked if anything was wrong with the tip on either of mine (I have a black one I made a tether for which stays hooked into the earphone jack on my 32gb wifi ipad2 and a blue one that stays clipped to the flap on the Timbuk2 envelope I keep my 64gb 3G one in), I told her no, but that I'd like to be prepared if something were to happen to one of mine. She took my info and said she would send a couple of replacement tips to me gratis. I received the package three days later and it contained five tips - talk about great customer service.
Overall, if you want a stylus that works great for writing and sketching, and if you happen to have a thicker screen guard (I use a Moshi iVisor in black on my iPhone and both iPads) some styli won't work at all, like the Pogo Sketch, others require you to tap the screen once to activate then again to write a sentence or sketch something - no issues at all with the Bamboo, you get an instant response when you begin to write or whatever else you happen to be doing. I've found absolutely no flaws with the stylus and would recommend it to anyone in the market for one. Yes, it's a touch expensive, but this is one of those cases where you really get what you pay for.

Recomendado totalmete.

The iPad responds very well to the rubber nib, which is the smallest one I have seen, so very good for writing. I was taking notes all day today on my iPad in a seminar and the Bamboo is the best writing stylus I have yet to use.
I gave this stylus four stars because, although it is relatively well balanced and feels good in the hand, it (like many other stylus') is shorter than a regular pen. I don't understand why manufacturers can't produce a stylus that is the same length and weight of a normal pen! Other than this small objection, this is the best stylus I have used so far (and I have tried a lot) for writing on the iPad.
Another feature I would like to see is the inclusion of a regular pen for writing on paper. I have owned a number of stylus' that also had pens built in, but they were not great quality. If Bamboo came out with a stylus of this quality, longer and with a regular pen built in it would be unbeatable.
OK.......I'm an idiot. Just found the Bamboo stylus that also has a pen in it! My bad. So, changing this review to 5 stars. I rdredd the "duo" and will review.
It does work on my iPad air as I take notes with the Bamboo app from the Apple Store.
The weight and feel of this stylus in the hand does feel nice. It is just a bit heavier compared to the BIC pens that you can buy at office depot.
The only problem that people might have with this product is the precision and the rubber tips. Depending on how you write, you might find it weird at first, but after I got used to it, it is fine.
Definitely recommended if you don't want to spend another $20 for the adjonit pro products.
